NGM: 1.5 million guests rested in our country in September, the performance of tourism continued to increase
Based on the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), in September 2024, nearly 1.5 million people visited our country and used the services of the accommodation facilities, which was 2 percent more than last year – pointed out the latest the Ministry of National Affairs (NGM) in its statement on tourism data on Tuesday.
Accommodations nationwide registered more than 3.6 million guest nights in this period, which represents a 1.1 percent increase compared to the previous year.
In the ninth month of the year, the difference in weekend days, the less favorable weather and the flood situation had a negative effect on domestic tourism, the NGM stated, adding that Hungary remains a popular destination among travelers. Thanks to this, the number of visitors to our country from abroad increased to nearly 767,000 in September, which exceeded last year’s result by 10 percent. Domestic guests spent 1.6 million nights in accommodations, while the number of foreign guest nights was nearly 2 million, the latter corresponding to an increase of nearly 6 percent.
60 percent of the country’s total accommodation turnover, i.e. nearly 2.2 million nights, were registered in rural areas. Two-thirds of the guest nights spent outside the capital were domestic guests, and Balaton proved to be the most popular tourist area in September as well.
Almost 40 percent of the accommodation traffic was aimed at Budapest, the number of guest nights in the capital reached 1.4 million, i.e. an increase of more than 13.2 percent compared to last year. The proportion of international guest traffic in Budapest was 87 percent, the number of foreign guest nights in the capital amounted to 1.2 million, which means an increase of 15 percent. International travelers are therefore extremely interested in Budapest
– stated the NGM.
