NGM: retail turnover took off in January
According to the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) adjusted for calendar effects, the volume of retail trade increased by 4.7 percent in January compared to the same period of the previous year, while it showed an increase of 2.2 percent compared to December 2024. Therefore, we can experience a significant expansion on an annual and monthly basis, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) stated in its commentary on the latest consumption data on Thursday.
Among the data, it was highlighted that the volume of sales in food and food-type mixed stores increased by 4.7 percent. In non-food retail, the sales volume increased even more, by 5.6 percent. Within this, sales increased by 9.7 percent in pharmaceutical, medical product and perfume stores, 7.8 percent in furniture and technical goods stores, 6.7 percent in industrial goods mixed stores, and 4.7 percent in textile, clothing and footwear stores.
The Ministry of Economy highlighted:
the government is continuously working to improve the economy so that families can manage with more money and thus consume more. Full employment and the 16-month real wage increase, most recently by 6.1 percent, are also contributing to this, as a result of which public confidence is continuously strengthening.
