NGM: tourist interest in Hungary has increased spectacularly
The visitor traffic of the Pentecost long weekend also made a significant contribution to the extremely spectacular results of the tourism sector in May, as the number of guest nights increased by 6 percent during this holiday alone – pointed out the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) in its analysis on Friday.
It was highlighted that there was a double-digit expansion in the turnover and income of the accommodation facilities.
The NGM recalled: based on the data of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) and the National Tourist Information Center (NTAK), in May 2024, more than 1.6 million guests across the country spent more than 3.7 million guest nights in domestic accommodations, thus both the guests and the the number of guest nights significantly exceeded the values at this time last year.
The number of guests in the last spring month of 1.6 million exceeded the total of May 2023 by 18 percent, and more than half of the guests were domestic guests. More than 3.7 million guest nights were registered at domestic accommodations, which exceeded last May by 13 percent.
Of these, nearly 2 million foreign guest nights were spent, which represents an increase of approximately 21 percent compared to last year’s value and clearly indicates the strengthening of foreign tourist interest in our country.
