NGM: SZÉP card holders spent 44 billion forints in June
The SZÉP card, following the record year of 2024, is one of the most important driving forces of domestic tourism this year as well: in June 2025, surpassing the previous year by almost 27 percent, 44.4 billion forints were topped up on SZÉP cards, spending amounted to 44.2 billion forints, nearly 14 percent more than last year’s use – the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) reported in a statement issued on Thursday.
The ministry added that the government is particularly supporting the carefree vacation of families through the SZÉP card, and is also strengthening domestic tourism and the economy through increased demand and consumption. Those wishing to relax can use their SZÉP card in more and more places: the number of acceptance points increased by 7.5 percent compared to last June, approaching 158 thousand.
The Ministry of Tourism also mentioned that the government is constantly working to ensure that Hungarian families can spend as much and as often as possible on recreation and relaxation. The government is therefore implementing Europe’s largest tax reduction program, in addition to which the SZÉP card also provides significant assistance to families, while strengthening domestic tourism and increasing the turnover of domestic service providers.
The Ministry of Tourism cites data from the National Tourism Data Service Center (NTAK), according to which accommodation establishments nationwide recorded approximately 10 percent more revenue in June than at this time last year, while their revenue from SZÉP cards increased by 1.6 percent.
Of the regions, the most was spent on accommodation establishments using SZÉP cards at Lake Balaton, where this amount accounted for 9.7 percent of domestic accommodation revenues in June. In June, accommodations in Gyula and the region owed their revenues to the SZÉP card, with SZÉP card spending accounting for 15.8 percent of accommodation revenues from domestic residents.
