The Ministry of National Economy (NGM) and the National Association of Entrepreneurs and Employers (VOSZ) have signed a cooperation agreement that serves the development of the Hungarian digital economy.

Within the framework of the agreement, the parties jointly support the safe expansion of the digital presence and business environment of Hungarian enterprises. They contribute to achieving consumer protection goals, make the digital transaction market more transparent, promote the development of a uniform professional and regulatory background, and initiate coordinated professional work between the government, market players and professional organizations in the field of electronic commerce.

To achieve these goals, VOSZ is establishing a new professional section called the Digital Trade and Transaction Ecosystem Section. The new section will bring together the entire ecosystem of the Hungarian digital economy on a single professional platform, including e-commerce, digital services, manufacturer D2C channels, logistics and parcel delivery service providers, and digital payment solutions.

“In the field of digital trade, domestic and international consumer protection and product safety measures, as well as EU-level customs measures, are taking place in order to ensure fair market operation and protect consumers. These processes can only be effective if the government and the business side work together in close cooperation. VOSZ plays a key role in this, as it represents a real professional connection point for the market with its broad business base. Businesses can meaningfully join the initiative launched now through VOSZ and actively participate in the joint professional work.”

– said Bence Gerlaki, Minister of Tax Affairs at the Ministry of National Economy, Secretary of State for Consumer Protection and Trade.

“For decades, VOSZ has been operating as an independent umbrella organization for business interests: it brings together actors from SMEs to large corporations, building a bridge between the market and decision-makers as a legitimate government partner. Its interest representation activities – from economic policy to legislation to the work of professional divisions and sections – are realized in information, training and tangible business development services that can be immediately incorporated into everyday activities.”

– emphasized János Eppel, President of VOSZ.

According to László Krisán, Co-President of VOSZ and President of the Trade Division, the Hungarian digital commerce market has developed faster than regulation and interest representation, which is why today the area is often characterized by fragmented, ad hoc solutions and delayed legislation.  The new VOSZ section aims to act as an integrating umbrella to reduce regulatory uncertainty, strengthen the position of honest entrepreneurs, and make data-based, implementable proposals to the government.

Ildikó Balázs, Director of Corporate Relations and Communications at Auchan Hungary Kft. and Chair of the VOSZ E-Commerce Section, said: “The planned work includes reviewing commercial legislation, developing a code of ethics, conceptual preparation of rating and fraud screening systems, and mapping the real size of the Hungarian digital market.” The section seeks active partnerships with, among others, Ecommerce Hungary, the Digital Commerce Association, and other trade and digital market-related associations.

The parties are convinced that the creation of the new section is an important step towards a more transparent, stable and long-term sustainable digital transaction market.
