NGM: tourism boomed in August as well, the number of guest nights exceeded 31 million
According to the latest data from the Central Statistical Office and the National Tourism Information Center, the performance of the tourism sector in Hungary continued to increase in August 2024, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) pointed out in its announcement on Monday.
Nearly 2.6 million visitors used the services of domestic accommodations in the eighth month of the year, which represents an 11 percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year. The number of guest nights also increased substantially, a total of more than 7 million nights were registered by domestic hotels in August, which corresponds to an increase of 3.6 percent on an annual basis.
They highlighted: domestic tourists are still decisive: 1.4 million Hungarian guests spent 3.9 million guest nights in domestic accommodations, which represents a 9.2 percent increase in the number of domestic guests, while a 3.7 percent increase in their guest nights. This highlights that a significant part of the population’s surplus consumption is concentrated in tourism.
