NGM: the SZÉP card is the engine of tourism, usage increased by 12 percent in November
The government is providing special support for families’ carefree vacations through the SZÉP card. The SZÉP card was one of the most important drivers of domestic tourism in November: the amount of spending amounted to approximately 33.2 billion forints, which represents an increase of almost 12 percent compared to November 2024, the Ministry of National Economy (NGM) noted in its statement on Thursday.
The government is working to ensure that Hungarian families can manage with more and more money: that is why it supports wage increases, implements Europe’s largest tax reduction program and continues the fight against unjustified price increases.
These government measures together contribute to families being able to spend as much and as often on recreation
– they added.
In order to further expand the financial room for maneuver of families, it will once again be possible to purchase cold food with the SZÉP card between December 1, 2025 and April 30, 2026.
Thus, the government is supporting not only domestic tourism through the SZÉP card, but also the expansion of retail turnover on a temporary basis.
At the end of November, almost 96.6 billion forints were still available on the cards, which Hungarian families In addition to their relaxation, they could also support their holiday shopping, the NGM wrote in its statement.
