Netrisk: travelers took out more insurance by mid-April than last year
Based on the number of travel insurance policies taken out this year, Hungarians’ willingness to travel has increased compared to last year, with 3.9 percent more travel insurance policies taken out at Netrisk by mid-April than in the same period last year, the insurance broker told MTI on Tuesday, based on its own data.
The Easter period played a major role in the expansion, when the number of travel insurance policies taken out increased by almost 21 percent compared to last year’s holiday period, they indicated.
The average premium for travel insurance was nearly 11,000 forints this year, which represents a 5 percent increase in price. 44 percent of the insurance policies were for air travel, and 42 percent for car travel.
Like last year, the main destinations among those traveling abroad with travel insurance were Austria and Italy, with Spain taking third place from last year’s bronze medalist Slovakia. Italy, Austria and Slovenia were the main destinations over the Easter weekend, while last year Germany followed the top two.
According to Netrisk’s own research, 78 percent of those traveling abroad have taken out travel insurance in the past two years; every second insurance policy is now taken out online.
