The tourism-hospitality basic course remains popular at domestic universities
This year, more than 8,000 people applied for the basic course in tourism and hospitality, and nearly 2,000 selected this course first. According to the data of the Education Office, nearly 121,000 people submitted valid applications for the courses starting in September 2023, of which more than 90,000 were admitted to a higher education institution. 67% of applicants applied for a bachelor’s degree, 20% for a master’s degree, 10% for undivided majors, and 3% for higher education vocational training.
Stable popularity in the field of tourism and hospitality
This year, 17 universities announced the tourism and hospitality major in various forms. A total of 8,179 applications were received for the bachelor’s degree program, and 1,864 students chose this major first. The Budapest University of Economics (BGE) was the most popular, receiving 2,867 applications, of which 794 chose this course first. BGE was followed by János Kodolányi University and the University of Debrecen.
Kornélia Kiss, dean of BGE’s Faculty of Commerce, Catering and Tourism, told Turizmus.com that practically the same number of students were admitted this year as last year. While 609 students were admitted in 2023, 602 students can start their studies in 2024.
