Automatic payments are popular
ATM deposits are growing at a double-digit pace at K&H, the financial institution announced based on its own data. Over the past thirteen months, the number of deposits made at ATMs increased by nearly 15 percent year-on-year, while the amount increased at a similar pace, by nearly 14 percent. Further growth in ATM deposits is expected, partly due to K&H’s new solution, thanks to which it is now possible to deposit cash into the financial institution’s own ATMs with a smart device – even without a physical bank card.
Deposit ATMs have proven to be one of the most successful innovations at K&H in recent years. With more than 560 ATMs available nationwide, customers can easily and quickly deposit cash into their accounts. Seeing the positive reception from customers, K&H has significantly increased its ATM network by nearly 20% in the past year and a half, making cash use even easier. Moreover, cash withdrawals have become more convenient than ever, as a physical bank card is no longer required – a digitized card stored on a smart device or mobile phone is sufficient. The data shows that these devices are playing an increasingly important role in banking.
Making room for hundreds of billions
“During the thirteen months from the beginning of 2024 to the end of January 2025, our customers deposited more than 341 billion forints into our ATMs almost 2.3 million times. This corresponds to a significant, double-digit increase compared to the nearly 2 million transactions of more than 300 billion forints a year earlier, i.e. from the beginning of 2023 to the end of January 2024,”
– Norbert Kováts, Head of Retail Network Development at K&H, presented the K&H data.
Looking at the entire Hungarian market, the latest central bank data refer to the first nine months of last year, but they also show expansion. The number of ATM deposits made domestically with bank cards issued in Hungary exceeded 11.7 million transactions from January to the end of September last year, which represented a 17 percent increase year-on-year. The amount deposited into ATMs approached 2,674 billion forints, which corresponded to a 24 percent increase.
