The food industry is a national strategic sector
We managed to put inflation, which had risen high due to the war and sanctions, onto a downward path, and we aimed for a further strong decrease, said Dr. Márton Nobilis, State Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for food industry and trade policy, at the X. Laurel Retail Conference, Wednesday, Budapest.
The state secretary emphasized that in order to reduce inflation, the government first introduced the price cap, followed by mandatory food price promotions as the next measure. In this way, this year’s most important goals are to protect families and to have inflation in single digits by the end of the year. Dr. Márton Nobilis added that independence should also be sought in the development of the food industry. We consider the food industry a national strategic sector. Let’s produce the products at home, and if possible, the processing should also take place locally. We have the skills and opportunities for this – he underlined. The state secretary emphasized that the government wants national champions who supply the Hungarian food market as a leading sector and also produce for export. These companies, if they can continue to grow and develop, will also attract medium and small businesses. The important thing for us is to create competitive, new developments with modern tools – he concluded.
