The nutrient management software of the HUN-REN Agricultural Research Center (ATK) has won another international award – the HUN-REN Center announced to MTI on Tuesday.

ProPlanta won the competition announced by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on the occasion of its 80th anniversary. The applicants were awarded in 5 categories, and the Hungarian development will receive the award in the technological development and transformation category at the ceremony next Wednesday – they wrote. According to the announcement, ProPlanta summarizes the results of 60 years of field research as user-friendly software and provides fertilization recommendations for more than 150 crops, helping to economically use nutrient sources and achieve the planned yield level. Its use can reduce the amount of fertilizer used, thus reducing the environmental impact. It is estimated that its use has reduced the amount of nitrates and phosphates in the soil by 2,500 tons and 15,000 tons respectively over the past decades. The system has been used on around 1.5 million hectares so far and has resulted in savings of more than 10 million euros, they added.
