International wine scandal: Millions of bottles false Pinot Noir was marketed
More than 18 million bottles of fake, poor quality Pinot Noir wine was marketed in the U.S.A. This is the largest international wine scandal ever.
On Wednesday, several French winemakers and traders have been found guilty of a massive scam after selling 18 million bottles of fake Pinot Noir to a leading U.S. buyer.
Some of the 12 winemakers and traders – who are believed to have made 7 million pounds from the scam – were handed suspended jail sentences ranging from one to six months, and were ordered to pay fines – reports AFP.
