A project to strengthen the scientific career orientation of young people is being launched. The development will be implemented by a consortium of the National Innovation Agency and the Association of Hungarian Student Labs, with a total of 1.64 billion forints in grant funding.

According to the consortium’s statement on Friday, the project entitled “Continuation of the János Selye Student Lab Program and Support for Other MTMI Career Incentive Programs” aims to further strengthen the scientific attitude of young people and the development of mathematics, natural sciences, engineering and career guidance related to IT fields. According to the plans, at least 54,000 young people will be able to participate in sessions that establish and deepen their scientific interest during the project.

The focus of the project is to support the activities of already operating student labs. The National Innovation Agency aims to ensure that the approach based on knowledge transfer, network operation and regional coverage contributes to the long-term education of future generations and to strengthening the country’s competitiveness.

Building on the experiences of previous developments, the project also aims to involve Hungarian communities across the border. The structure provides the opportunity for at least two student labs across the border to be part of the network, building on the professional experiences and results of domestic programs. These labs contribute to the participants’ involvement in the international innovation and education space.

The objectives also include supporting existing and new initiatives that encourage young people to enter careers in mathematics, science, technology and IT.

In the long term, the program serves to increase the attractiveness of research, development and scientific careers, helping to expand the number of students and students studying in these fields, as well as encouraging the participation of women in scientific careers.

The consortium also pays special attention to the professional and organizational strengthening of the organizations operating the student labs. The project will support individual programs and events, primarily for educational institutions and civil organizations. Targeted support will contribute to the further development of the lab network along a more stable and long-term sustainable operating model, it was announced.
