Ice cream production in Germany is the most expensive in Europe
According to Eurostat data, in 2022, the European Union produced 3.2 billion liters of ice cream, marking a 5% increase compared to the previous year.
Germany was the main ice cream producer with 620 million liters, followed by France (591 million liters), and Italy (571 million liters). In terms of production, Germany led the way, offering the most affordable ice cream at 1.5 euros per liter. France reported an average price of 1.9 euros per liter, while Italy’s ice cream cost 2.3 euros per liter.
Regarding prices, Austria had the highest average at 7.0 euros per liter. This was followed by Denmark at 4.4 euros and Finland at 2.8 euros.
Furthermore, France contributed one-fifth of the total ice cream exports from the EU to countries outside the bloc. In 2022, EU countries exported 250 million kilograms of ice cream worth 930 million euros to non-EU countries. In contrast, ice cream imports from outside the EU amounted to 203 million euros for 61 million kilograms. Non-EU ice cream imports decreased by 14% in 2022 compared to the previous year, while exports only grew by 2%.
