Bavaria dominates gingerbread production in Germany
With the pre-Christmas season on, gingerbread season begins again.
According to a recent announcement by the State Office for Statistics in Munich, industrial gingerbread production is increasingly dominated by Bavarian companies. In 2021, around 74.2 per cent of all gingerbread produced by German companies with a staff of at least 20 employees came from the federal state.
This means that Bavaria’s share in German gingerbread production has increased significantly over the past ten years. In 2011, Bavaria’s share in the production of gingerbread, honey cake and similar products of 27,269 tonnes in Germany was just under one-third of the total production.
In 2021, the 26 companies in Bavaria produced a total of 62,721 tonnes of the seasonal products. This is around 1.9 percent more than in 2020.
