Stormy weather is not good for tourism
Due to the stormy weather, the tasks of the water police and rescuers on Lake Balaton and Lake Velence have increased significantly in recent days. The police rescued people and sunken ships in the stormy winds, which posed serious challenges for them.
Due to the strong winds accompanying the cold front in recent days, the water police had to rescue several bathers and a sunken sailboat. Stormy weather can cause sudden emergency situations, especially in summer. Sailing instructor Péter Szaniszló emphasized that everyone should monitor the storm signal and act accordingly.
“If it flashes, then we leave the beach in accordance with the rules or start mooring,”
said Szaniszló.
The Gárdony water police have previously carried out successful rescue operations. A few years ago, for example, they had to rescue seven people from the water in front of the Agard harbor at the same time, including two children. Their overturned canoe filled with water almost immediately, but the police quickly arrived on the scene and rescued those in trouble.
According to harbor master Gábor Bozóki, many people get into trouble on the water because they do not correctly assess their own abilities and the environmental effects.
