Mere did not open a store in Nyíregyháza, it was deleted from the register
Although it was previously announced that the Russian discount chain Mere, known for its spartan savings, would begin its expansion in Hungary, no stores were opened in the end, including the Nyíregyháza branch. According to the city hall, since the company did not start commercial activities, the authority officially deleted it from the register on January 31.
Mere registered itself in the National Commercial Register last spring at an address in Nyíregyháza, but according to on-site reports, there was never anything on the premises indicating that a store would ever open there. Although the company recruited purchasing staff with a net salary of half a million, the stores did not open, Telex points out.
The administrative department of the Nyíregyháza mayor’s office confirmed that the application met all requirements, which is why Mere was included in the register. However, since the company did not start operations, the legal relationship of the use of the business premises changed in the meantime, so the company was deleted from the register. This means that at one point there was indeed a plan to open a store in Nyíregyháza, but it ultimately did not materialize.
Mere’s expansion plans in Hungary therefore remain uncertain, and it is questionable whether the company will try to enter the Hungarian market again in the future.
