Naples is not the birthplace of pizza?
One of the oldest Italian word is pizza. The first record of the pizza word was found in the Southern Italian city of Gaeta by Italian historian Giuseppe Nocca who is dealing with the history of nutrition. According to his research, the pizza was not”invented” in the city of Naples.
Giuseppe Nocca supports his allegations with historical evidences. The gastronomy historian found a document made in 997 in the cathedral of Gaeta, which indicates that one mill owner in the territory of the bishopric had to give 12-12 pieces of pizza as a tax to the landowner bishop on Christmas and Easter.
