GM pollen in honey may remain unnoticed
The European Parliament adopted the proposal on Wednesday, in which the pollen is determined as a natural element of honey and not as a separate component, so it will not be necesarry to indicate that it contains genetically modified organisms (GMOs) on the packaging.
The essence of the debate that the EU law has not clearly directed yet, what the pollen should be regarded in the honey; a forming element or a component. The European Court of Justice in its 2011 judgment declared it as a component, but under clarifications proposed by the European Commission and now adopted by the EP, the pollen is a natural component of the honey and not a separate component.
