Not only the wine, but also the roof can be white: this is how this winery fights against warming
Above Esztergom is a small village in Slovakia, mostly inhabited by Hungarians, whose wines are offered in the best restaurants in the world. One of the region’s wineries, however, has become interesting not only for this reason, but also because the winery’s buildings almost glow among the vineyards due to their unique roof design. The white ceramic tiles proved to be effective not only outside, but also inside: in this summer’s heat, it was possible to maintain a pleasant internal temperature with minimal use of air conditioning. The building complex, which breaks form, yet fits into the landscape, has already won awards in several prestigious tenders.

The designers chose a unique architectural solution to regulate the temperature
Today, many countries are experimenting with how to reduce the formation of urban heat islands using light surfaces. The advantage of white ceramic roof tiles compared to traditional roofing materials lies in their much higher heat reflectivity, so they heat up much less compared to the usual colored roofs, and can significantly reduce the formation of urban heat islands and the increase in the internal temperature of the building. Their use also offers architects new opportunities in the field of design.
White roof tiles spread mainly in countries with a warm, sunny climate for most of the year, for example in Mediterranean countries, where there is a tradition of white painted houses. However, due to the climate changes of recent decades, these innovative building elements are becoming more and more known in the domestic and neighboring regions. They prove to be an advantageous choice not only for large real estate developments and modern residential buildings, but also for smaller buildings with character, such as this Slovakian winery.
