As a result of intensive detection across the country and responsible farming behavior, the laboratory of the National Food Chain Safety Office (Nébih) has again detected the grapevine flavescence dorée phytoplasma (FD) causing grapevine golden yellow disease in several counties and wine regions. With the new confirmed infections, the disease is now present in 17 counties and 20 wine regions. Official measures have also been taken in the Mátra and Tokaj wine regions.

In the Bodrogkeresztúr area (Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén county, Tokaj wine region) following public notification, while in the village of Abasár (Heves county, Mátra wine region) as a result of intensive detection, grapevines suspected of being infected were identified. The county plant protection inspectors took samples at both locations, and the Nébih laboratory finally confirmed the presence of the quarantine pathogen. The on-site measurements of the Nébih mobile laboratory vehicle deployed for pre-screening also contributed to the confirmation of the disease and the early ordering of the necessary phytosanitary measures.

Experts from the competent government agencies will order the necessary phytosanitary measures at the locations affected by the infection. The designation of the infected area with a radius of 1 km and a buffer zone with a further radius of 3 km around the infection has already begun.

The rapid detection of infected plantations is of paramount importance in the national defense against FD disease. Nébih calls on grape growers and the public to immediately report the detection of symptoms to the competent authorities: the plant health inspector of the county government agency and Nébih. Public notifications remain key, as timely signals allow for the prompt imposition of phytosanitary measures and thus prevent the rapid spread of the infection.
