Do not expect lower strawberry prices
The price of strawberries will not be cheaper in June. Currently it is around 1000-1400 HUF per kilo. Due to the severe frost damages, about 30 percent of the yield was destroyed – Magyar Hírlap wrote.
In Hungary, strawberries are produced on nearly eight hundred hectares, sixty percent of this is film cultivation, forty is field cultivation. In a typical year 10-11 thousand tons of strawberries are grown. Lajosmizse and its surroundings give more than half of the strawberry crop. Csizmadia György, Vice President of the Hungarian Fruit and Vegetable Interprofessional Organisation and Product Board told Magyar Hírlap that 60-70 percent of the free strawberry crop was destroyed in the region, due to the April frosts.
