NAV: almost 1,700 liters of counterfeit detergent found in a van
The tax inspectors found almost 1,700 liters of counterfeit detergent in a van that was checked on the M7 motorway, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) told MTI on Monday.
According to the statement, the van was transporting detergent to Slovenia, but the cargo was full of counterfeit detergent.
The vehicle was driven by a Vietnamese man who was traveling alone; The driver said he was carrying 1,685 liters of detergent, and then handed over a transport document to the tax officers about the transaction.
After checking the papers, the patrol officers examined the cargo area, where they became suspicious that the bottles looked deceptively similar to a well-known brand of detergent, but only had a label on the back.
The tax officers conducted a detailed inspection, during which they found 570 labels and the adhesive used to attach them in the passenger compartment, behind the driver’s seat and in the cargo area.
The owner of the trademark representative confirmed that the products and labels are counterfeit.
The financial police seized a total of 1,684 liters of counterfeit detergent and 570 labels.
The damage caused to the rights holders exceeds 4 million forints.
The Hungarian Tax and Customs Administration has initiated proceedings for the criminal violation of industrial property rights, the statement says.
