NAK: soil moisture may be sufficient for the development of summer plants
The rains of the next few days can provide the moisture needed for the development of summer plants in the upper layer of the soil, the National Chamber of Agricultural Economy (NAK) wrote on Monday, referring to the forecast of the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ).

The condition of the autumn crops is good, the temperature is suitable, a sudden warming would not be good for them. At the same time, pathogens spread quickly due to persistent leaf wetness, and the sowing of summer crops was delayed due to the cold. Most of the fruit trees have already blossomed and their fruiting starts are developing, but several varieties suffered from the frosts at the end of March and beginning of April, and the rainfall in April was not favorable for their pollination, they wrote.
According to the announcement, in the first third of May, the majority of the country received less rain than it should have
In the eastern part of the country, the precipitation did not even reach 5 millimeters in some places. In the Great Plain, both the monthly and three-monthly amounts fall short of normal, so the soil layer near the surface has dried out, and the middle layer has also lost a lot of its moisture content. The figures of the OMSZ show that the upper soil layer west of the Tisza is sufficiently moist, but very dry in the Békés county and especially in the eastern part of the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county. In addition, summer crops are affected by moderate drought in smaller areas of Hajdú-Bihar and Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén counties. Based on the monthly and three-month summaries, the amount of precipitation is also lower than usual in the Tiszántúl region, the Southern Great Plain and some regions of Northern Hungary – read the agrometeorological summaries.
