Edit Vendégh announced at a press conference held before the meeting of the Tolna County Harvest Coordination Committee that the autumn harvest in the county is almost completely completed, except for sugar beet. The harvest of sugar beet grown on 1,200 hectares has begun in the districts of Tolna, Paks and Dombóvár. The expected average yield is 30 tons per hectare, which is a very poor result – she added. According to KSH data, farmers in Tolna achieved an average of 57 tons in 2024. According to him, sunflowers were harvested on 45,200 hectares, the average yield was the same as last year, 2.9 tons per hectare, and producers were able to achieve better results on soils with better water management. The oil content in the case of varieties with high oleic acid content exceeded 45 percent.

The corn harvest will be completed in the coming days, the expected result is an average of 5.9 tons on 51,200 hectares, while in 2024 it was 6.6 tons per hectare

1.9 tons per hectare of soybeans grown on 1,425 hectares were harvested, drought and heat stress significantly affected the yield. The county chamber president also spoke about the fact that sowing is progressing well despite the drought, rapeseed has already been sown everywhere, but the emergence is uneven due to the lack of rainfall. The sowing of autumn barley has been completed, 85 percent of the wheat has been sown. “The drought has created a critical situation throughout the county, farmers are waiting for the soaking autumn rainfall. The water shortage is already endangering the existence of rapeseed and cereal crops,” he emphasized. He added that the Szekszárd area receives an average of 650 millimeters of precipitation annually, but by the end of September this year the amount of precipitation had been only 360 millimeters. The last soaking rain was at the beginning of July, 3 millimeters fell in June, 55 in July, 40 in August, and 10 millimeters in September.
