NAK: average quantity but good quality plums this year
This year, about 60-70 thousand tons of plums were produced in Hungary, which corresponds to the average of recent years, but the quality of the fruit is very good this year – the National Chamber of Agriculture (NAK) told MTI.
In recent years, plum production has been between 45 and 70 thousand tonnes, half of the 150 thousand tonnes produced in 1990 – NAK explained.
There are 6551 hectares of industrial plum cultivation in the country. The most significant production areas are Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg (1632 hectares), Bács-Kiskun (1452 hectares) and Pest counties (1056 hectares), besides there are large production areas in Heves, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Nógrád and Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok counties.
