There is great potential in domestic quail egg production
Nutrient-rich quail eggs are becoming more and more popular in Hungary, and as a result, the number of Hungarian quail producers is also increasing. These little eggs have a higher nutritional value than regular chicken eggs, such as more iron, B vitamins and vitamin A. Quail breeding requires a relatively small space, and under the right conditions, 280-300 eggs can be produced from one hen every year.
Although quail farming offers economic opportunities, producers face certain challenges, such as the sensitivity of inbreeding and the aggressive behavior of roosters. Prices also play a role in this sector, and rising costs of feed, energy and packaging materials can make it difficult to operate economically.
The current price of quail eggs is around HUF 50-60, and producers believe that this consumer price level would allow the sector to develop further.
After the introduction of the online price monitoring system, the prices of several food products decreased in Hungary, which can alleviate food inflation and have a positive effect on the weights of the consumer basket. The decrease in food prices can also contribute to the competitiveness of quail eggs on the market.
