Márton Nagy consulted with Matt Doocey, the minister responsible for tourism in New Zealand
Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy received Matt Doocey, New Zealand’s minister responsible for tourism and hospitality, in his office on Wednesday. During the meeting, the parties reviewed the current situation of tourism relations between Hungary and New Zealand and possible areas for deepening them, as well as shared good practices in tourism development of the two countries, announced the Ministry of National Economy (NGM).
At the meeting, Márton Nagy welcomed the free trade agreement between the EU and New Zealand, which entered into force on May 1, 2024, which will eliminate the tariffs that European companies face when exporting to the island nation, thereby offering significant benefits to the participating countries , so also for our country.
The minister emphasized that the Hungarian government can support any agreement that aims to reduce trade barriers and strengthen mutually beneficial economic relations, especially in a situation where the European Union, despite the division shown on the issue, applies punitive tariffs to, among other things, the import of Chinese electric cars also against.
According to the Hungarian point of view, increasing Europe’s competitiveness does not require protectionism, but rather cooperation and free market competition.
The ministry reported that in recent years, New Zealand tourists have chosen our country as a destination in increasing numbers.
