Márton Nagy: the most important task is to boost economic growth
Minister of National Economy Márton Nagy called the most important task to boost economic growth, raising it above 3 percent, at the 4th Oradea Economic Conference on Thursday.
At the conference held at the Roman Catholic Bishop’s Palace as part of the Festum Varadinum event series of Oradea Hungarians, the minister spoke about the main pillars of Hungarian economic policy, then presented the government’s measures to keep inflation under control. He said that margin regulation would be extended to household goods after food.
Márton Nagy emphasized that the government’s message was also understood by banks, telecommunications companies and insurance companies and they have restrained their margins.
In relation to Romania, he spoke about the importance of foreign trade between the two countries.
“Romania is today Hungary’s second most important export country after Germany. (…) We export 8 billion euros to Romania, and we bring 3.5 billion back,”
– he said. He added that the bulk of Hungarian exports are machinery, food and agricultural products, while Romania mainly imports energy products.
The Minister of Finance named the importance of diversification as the most important lesson from the energy crisis that has negatively affected the economy.
The event was also attended by Barna Tánczos, Minister of Finance of the Romanian Government, and Csaba Bálint, Member of the Board of Directors of the National Bank of Romania (BNR).
