MTÜ: with Chinese tourist groups, Hungary’s tourism can recover to the 2019 level sooner
Chinese tourist groups can also contribute to Hungary’s tourism reaching the level of the “year of zero” in 2019 as quickly as possible, the Deputy Director General of Marketing and Communications of the Hungarian Tourism Agency (MTÜ) told MTI on Wednesday in Budapest.
At Liszt Ferenc International Airport, the first group of Chinese tourists who arrived in Budapest with an official group visa since the pandemic were received in a ceremonial setting. They arrived on a direct Air China flight from Chunking.
MTÜ’s deputy general manager explained to the press staff that China is one of the largest sending markets in the world with nearly 200 million outbound travelers. This is why this group is of enormous importance, since in the last three years organized Chinese guest traffic has been sorely lacking in tourism, he added.
He pointed out that last year, looking at the whole year, 24,000 individual Chinese travelers came to our country and spent 107,000 guest nights with us. Since the announcement of the opening in China, around 36,000 guest night reservations have already been received for this year, according to the data of the National Tourist Information Center – pointed out Zsófia Jakab.
