From now on, Brussels regulates the operation of Airbnb and Booking
The European Parliament and the Council reached an agreement on the regulation of short-term housing rentals. The draft primarily affects Airbnb, Booking and Exepedia, as well as service providers operating in a similar model.
According to the report of hvg.hu, registration will be possible in the future for free or for a proportional fee via the Internet for short-term rented properties. The main tenants receive a registration number, based on which the data can be checked by the authorities. Users must thereby identify the property on the platforms and ensure that the information provided is reliable.
Violators of the rules may expect their registration number to be suspended. The authorities have the right to take down illegal ads and can also impose penalties. The member states will create a common interface to which the larger platforms must send monthly data on the activities of apartment rental companies. The difficulty so far has been caused by the fact that apartment rental platforms refrained from sharing data.
