With modern packaging against deterioration

According to the latest survey by USDA, 40 percent of food sold worldwide lands in the garbage can. 100 million tons of food decomposes every year in European waste disposal sites while 50,000 people die of hunger every day. The production of food is a burden on the environment and when decomposing, food products emit harmful material, including methane gas. EPA says that food and other organic waste constitute two-thirds of the world’s solid waste. In the light of these facts, it is not surprising that producers and distributors try everything to stop wasting. Sealed Air’s major undertaking is to minimise food waste: food packaging materials and systems distributed by Cryovac make food product distribution safe and efficient. Cutting down on waste production affects three fields: 1. production technology, 2. the company’s product/service planning, development and implementation and 3.the path of products after leaving the plant. It is a general trend that people shop less frequently, but buy products with a longer shelf life. For meat packaging, Cryovac developed the Mirabella tray-sealing system, where the foil may touch the meat without changing its colour; the product is 40-percent smaller as well. Vegetables and dairy products can be stored 2-3 weeks longer than the average, while Mirabella keeps meat products fresh 14 days longer. Products with Cryovac Mirabella packaging can also be transported farther, in a secure way.
