Modern store types dominate
The retail trade of frozen products is growing. Sales of meats exceed HUF 12 billion, frozen potato sales are over HUF 3,5 billion, while frozen pizzas represent a market of HUF 4,5 billion. Among meats poultry is dominant with a market share of 89 per cent. Within poultry, the value of turkey sales is double of chicken sales. Chicken sales however, are improving at the expense of turkey. Private labels are also gaining ground in this category. Last year, the market share of private labels rose by 2 per cent to 31. Total sales of frozen meat grew by 8 per cent last year. Sales of frozen potato also grew by 31 per cent, with a 57 per cent market share for the private labels. Half of the frozen pizzas sold were of quality brands, while one third of the total volume sold belongs to special flavours.
Most frozen products, especially pizzas, are sold in modern store types.
