MNB: turnover with bank cards increased significantly in the first quarter

In the first quarter, the domestic turnover of bank cards increased by 13 percent in number and by 23 percent in value compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching 1,754 billion HUF. The number of online card purchases increased by 38 percent and their value by 50 percent, the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (MNB) stated in a report published on Monday.

The value of individual forint transfers increased by almost 12 percent, compared to the same period of the previous year, which was already helped by the launch of the immediate payment service on 2 March.

In parallel with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the number of online card acceptance points has also increased as a result of the rapid spread of various home delivery services and contactless payment. (MTI)
