A need for a 30 percent increase in pig consumer prices
While in the past 5 years the combined average inflation exceeded 30 percent, the retail price of pork has increased just 10 percent. Now that feed-prices have seen a sudden increase, pig-farmers face a difficulty to keep their farms running. In order to avoid the closing of these farms, at least a 30 percent increase of both consumer and purchaser prices – these ideas were presented by a press release by the National Federation of Agricultural Cooperators and Producers (MOSZ) on Tuesday. According to experts, pig-keeping is in serious crisis at the moment in Hungary, similarly to several countries within the European Union, and only strong state support might help solve current prolems and help farmers survive.
