The price of bunch tomatoes has changed minimally
According to the WPTC’s October forecast, the volume of industrial tomatoes in Hungary may increase by 9 percent to 120 thousand tons in 2024 compared to 2023.

According to KSH data, imports of fresh or chilled tomatoes increased to 17.6 thousand tons (+3 percent) in the first eight months of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year. Imports from Spain increased to 6.3 thousand tons (+19 percent), from Germany to 1.6 thousand tons (+80 percent), while imports from Slovakia decreased to 3.1 thousand tons (–17 percent), and from Turkey to 1.4 thousand tons (–58 percent). Tomato exports increased to 16.8 thousand tons (+15 percent), mainly directed towards the Czech Republic (7.3 thousand tons) and Slovakia (3.3 thousand tons) during the observed period. According to AKI PÁIR data, the producer price of domestic spherical tomatoes on the Budapest Wholesale Market was 7 percent lower (683 HUF/kilogram), while that of cluster tomatoes was 1 percent higher (875 HUF/kilogram), and that of cherry tomatoes was 6 percent higher (1,686 HUF/kilogram) in weeks 1–47 compared to the same period of the previous year.
