The Christmas tree season started with a minimal price increase
This year, customers can get pine for barely more than last year’s price: spruce fir 5, silver pine 6, while Nordmann pine is offered at a price of around HUF 8,000 per meter by occasional pine sellers at street and market stands – Agroinform announced the results of a survey conducted last week on Monday.
52 percent of customers plan to spend at least HUF 7,000 for this purpose, of which 23 percent plan to spend more than HUF 10,000. Due to the expected lower demand, the markets usually experience a price increase of around 5 percent, despite the fact that the costs related to cultivation continued to rise this year. 29 percent of the respondents plan to buy a slightly smaller pine tree this year, another 11 percent plan to switch to a cheaper variety, while 21 percent are confident that with a more thorough search, they will be able to find the usual size and type of pine at a more favorable price than before.
According to the survey, 47 percent leave the purchase until the last week
Forty-five percent prefer Nordmann pine, which is available at a higher price than the others, but is more durable. Spruce occupies the next places in the popularity list with 37 percent and silver pine with 13 percent. Forty-four percent plan to buy pines over one and a half meters tall, 56 percent smaller than that, and every eighth customer is interested in pines sold with roots.
26 percent of the respondents indicated that they decorate with an artificial tree instead of a pine tree at Christmas
In this round, 40 percent of the respondents indicated environmental protection, 30 percent mentioned the price advantage due to multiple uses, while 22 percent highlighted the durability and cleanliness due to the absence of falling needles. In Hungary today, 600-700 family farms grow pine trees on 3,000-3,500 hectares, the amount produced in this way covers about three quarters of the domestic demand – reported Agroinform.hu.
