Every second German drinks plant-based
According to a recent survey by Danone, done in collaboration with market research institute Innofact, 49% of the German population drinks some form of plant-based milk substitute.

Only 34 per cent of Germans are aware of the fact that plant‑based drinks are taxed at a higher VAT rate than cow’s milk, which is subject to a 7% rate

18% do so regularly, but among 18-29 year olds and households with children this figure rises to 56%. Oat drinks are the most popular: 48% of consumers choose them often or very often, while 34% prefer almond drinks. The main motivations for buying are health considerations and animal welfare.
