Nearly a third of people rarely talk to their friends in person, and 82 percent of Generation Z youth prefer texting and chatting to phone calls. 44 percent of this age group only see their friends a few times a month, according to a recent representative study by Jägermeister Orange.1According to the survey, 56 percent of respondents said it is easier to stay in touch with friends today than it was 10 years ago, while nearly two-thirds said deep conversations and great laughs are what make friendships truly special. And with candid moments becoming increasingly rare, it’s no surprise that 39 percent of Gen Zers worry about not having time to see their friends during the holidays.

More than a third of Gen Zers, young adults and 20-somethings born between 1997 and 2009, talk to their friends online several times a day, but the vast majority – 82 percent – prefer some kind of messaging app or chat program in everyday life. While this generation is constantly online, the number of in-person interactions is decreasing: 2 out of 5 young people can meet their friends four or fewer times a month, according to a recent representative study by Jägermeister Orange.

Despite all this, the majority of Z-young people – 65 percent – believe that time spent with friends is made truly special by shared laughter, good mood, and deep conversations and reflections, i.e. the quality moments that we usually associate with personal meetings. 33 percent of the age group prefer meaningful conversations, while 32 percent vote for spending time full of laughter and good mood.

The results also show that people value friendly relationships and quality time, even if it is difficult to organize meetings in person. 32 percent of those surveyed were worried about not having time to meet up with friends during the holidays, and if we look only at Generation Z, this rate is even higher: 39 percent.

What if young people were more courageous in picking up the phone? Jägermeister Orange is using a spectacular phone booth to draw attention to the fact that even an unexpected call can bring new experiences, especially during the holidays. The installation will be waiting for passers-by at Madách Imre tér 5 between December 3 and 6. The booth will ring twice every hour between 6 a.m. and 2 a.m., at the full hour and at half past one. And whoever picks it up can win unique gifts.

The lucky ones can also talk to Dóra Vándornyik via video call on December 3 and 5 between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM, who will inspire you with humor and honest advice to revive personal relationships. The program is also complemented by playful hostess activities every day between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM. A few hundred meters away, on December 4 and 6 from 8 PM, the Center (Madách Imre út 5.) will bring people together with free concerts.
