Which came first…?
This October the World Egg Day was a perfect occasion for the Ministry of Agriculture, the Agricultural Marketing Centre (AMC), and the Association of Hungarian Laying Hen Hybrid Breeders and Egg Producers (MTTSZ) to promote egg consumption, focusing on the high quality, benefits and diversity of egg.

Due to the price cap, scarcity in supply may occur on the long run
Zsolt Feldman, state secretary of agriculture and rural development told at a press conference: Hungary is a net exporter of egg in net value, but in volume we are net importers. The country’s self-supply level is 84%. Péter Ondré, CEO of AMC told that per capita egg consumption has been growing since 2013, at the moment every Hungarian eats 240 eggs per year. Imre Szép, president of MTTSZ revealed that egg production increased by 30% between 2013 and 2020, from 860 million pieces to 1.1 billion. The Poultry Product Council (BTT) opines that cage, free-range and organic eggs all have their place in the market. //
At any price!
Egg contains 40 different proteins, including 18 types of amino acids and several vitamins. Consumers feel that egg’s price has surged recently, but the Association of Hungarian Laying Hen Hybrid Breeders and Egg Producers (MTTSZ) claims it is still one of the cheapest essential foods. Egg producers are doing their best to put enough eggs on store shelves in the Christmas period, but due to the price cap imposed by the government, egg shortage can’t be ruled out in the long run. Hungarians like their egg: according to a recent survey by Ben’s Original, one quarter of consumers have it for supper, making it the third most popular breakfast choice.//
