What is the value of a diploma in the job market now?
As the deadline for university applications approaches, Profession.hu has once again prepared its analysis of the trends affecting job seekers with higher education in the labor market. Although in certain areas the candidate’s attitude has become more important than the existing studies, more opportunities await job seekers with a degree.
Hungary’s most visited thematic job portal examined the labor market opportunities of university graduates in its latest analysis, supporting students considering further education with data-based information. Given the current salary requirements of job seekers and the large number of open positions linked to higher education, career orientation may be easier for young people who are about to make a decision.
The Profession.hu CV database contains more than 265,000 people relevant to the analysis who indicated their graduate status upon registration. Most of them obtained their degrees at Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Debrecen, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the University of Szeged or the Budapest University of Economics after their higher education.
Trends in the labor market are constantly changing in terms of employers’ expectations, and in many cases the focus is shifting from existing papers to the skills and attitudes of candidates, but there are some fields of expertise that typically only require CVs from graduates. In 2024, the highest proportion of requirements for advertisements seeking financial and economic directors included a higher education degree. This was followed by job opportunities seeking economists and legal professionals.
