Quo vadis Hungarian manager?
After the summer break many are waiting for the job market to come to life. What are the current trends? Economic recession forced many companies to restructure themselves and to centralise their operation. These changes resulted in fewer positions to fill. Those who are out of job and older than 50 years are in a difficult situation.
My advice to them is to preserve their self-esteem; they should not go to job interviews because they will not be successful. They have to evaluate themselves honestly because getting a realistic picture of themselves helps a lot. Managers should have a hobby which they pursue and later, when they do not have a better option, can even turn into an enterprise – this is what they call ‘hobby management’ and it works, for instance I personally know many people who did this and it changed their lives. However, many do not dare to start their own business, but the main thing is for everyone to find the solution that suits their personality the best. Those who have just graduated are in a different situation. For beginners on the job market multinational companies are the most attractive. My view is that it is worth trying Hungarian firms as well. One has to be patient to find the right position. Unfortunately there are more and more people who have been waiting for a good opportunity for quite a while. One has to work hard for their luck: ‘in the right place at the right time’ does not come easy.
