Artificial intelligence and statistical data assets: KSH and NAVÜ held a strategic meeting
The guest of the Central Statistical Office (KSH) was Dr. László Palkovics, the government commissioner responsible for artificial intelligence, who was received by Dr. Áron Kincses, the President of the KSH, and Vince Kruchina, the Executive Director of the National Data Assets Agency (NAVÜ). The purpose of the meeting, which took place on March 18, 2025, was to review the KSH and NAVÜ’s concept of artificial intelligence (AI), as well as the possibilities of applying AI in fact-based public administration decision-making – writes Pénzcentrum.
AI strategy and European regulation
The meeting focused on the domestic AI strategy and the KSH and NAVÜ’s plans related to artificial intelligence, with particular regard to the European Union Regulation 2024/1689 (AI Act) and its domestic legal harmonization. The provisions of the AI Act fundamentally define the framework for AI developments and applications in Europe, therefore it is crucial that Hungary, in addition to legal compliance, effectively exploits the opportunities offered by AI.
Data-driven decision-making and technological innovation
The use of modern data management and analysis solutions is essential for fact-based, well-founded decision-making. As the largest data asset manager in Hungary, the Central Statistical Office pays special attention to digitalization and technological innovations in order to assist decision-makers with accurate and timely statistical data. The application of AI and machine learning can open up new dimensions in the field of statistical analyses, enabling faster and more accurate processing of large, heterogeneous data sets.
National-level coordination in the development of AI
The participants agreed that comprehensive, national-level coordination is needed in the field of AI-based solutions and data analysis. The aim is to make the most of the available data assets and to enable Hungary to make the most of the benefits of new technologies. The meeting highlighted the potential of AI for the economy, public administration and the scientific community, as well as the importance of coordinating developments at a strategic level.
The Central Statistical Office and the National Statistical Office are committed to the development of artificial intelligence and data analysis, which can provide significant benefits for Hungary’s competitiveness and innovation capacity in the long term.
