Hungarian winemaking has achieved a historic success: Kancellár Birtok’s SomlAI Cuvée 2021 from the Somló wine region won the International White Wine Revelation award at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2025 competition. The blend created with the help of artificial intelligence received the highest score out of thousands of white wines entered, writes Agrárszektor.

The special recognition highlighted not only the Somló wine region, but the entire Hungarian winemaking industry from the international field. The AI version created by Kancellár Birtok was based on Furmint, while the backbone of the Inverz cuvée, created with human winemaking decisions, was juhfark.

Róbert Szűcs, owner of Jammertal Borbirtok – which achieved similar success with red wine in 2021 – said: the wine market is full of challenges, as the overproduction of mid-range wines is destroying prices and consumer confidence is fragile. “Wine is a cat in a bag, the consumer only faces the experience when tasting it, and if they are disappointed, the entire market loses,” he emphasized.

The owner of Kancellár Birtok, Krisztina Boda-Horváth, added that the 20-hectare family estate is constantly developing, in addition to Juhfark, Furmint and Hárslevelű, they are also experimenting with blue grape varieties and are planning to open a restaurant. According to sommelier Antal Kovács, the success proves that through the meeting of tradition and modern technology, Hungarian wines can also take their place at the forefront of the world.

The basalt soil of the Somló wine region and the late harvest give the wines a special mineral and dried fruit character – and now a cuvée made with the help of AI has put the finishing touches on the i with international recognition.
