The decline in retail turnover moderated in the Czech Republic
In January, retail sales in the Czech Republic decreased by 7.7 percent, after 8.1 percent in December. The decline in the turnover of the Czech retail trade has thus been going on for the ninth month, but it is constantly decreasing, announced the Czech Statistical Office in Prague.
In a monthly comparison, retail turnover in January was 0.3 percent higher than in December.
“The lower turnover affected both the sale of food and manufactured goods. On the other hand, the sale of fuel increased in January for the second month in a row”
Jana Gotvaldová, director of the statistical office, pointed out at the press conference in Prague. He said: the annual turnover of manufactured goods decreased by 9.5 percent, that of foodstuffs by 8 percent, while that of fuel increased by 1.7 percent.
In a monthly comparison, the turnover of manufactured goods fell by 1.1 percent, while a 1.7 percent increase was shown for foodstuffs. The turnover of fuels increased by 2.5 percent.
