According to the announcement, apart from the 20-25 millimeters of rain that recently fell in the Dombóvár area, the drought has been raging in the county for weeks, the soil is extremely dry almost everywhere. Among the field crops, corn is in the worst condition, due to the heat and lack of rainfall, the plant began to flower and produce tubers much earlier. It was pointed out that rainfall in the next 15 days would be vital as the plant is in its seeding period. The herds at higher altitudes or windier places, on low-quality soils with unfavorable water balance, will not be helped by the precipitation either, “the herd is already exhausted”, they added.
In addition to the drought, almost every settlement is affected by the damage of the cotton owl moth
The first generation of moths has already pupated, the second is coming, and a serious fungal infection can also be expected at the site of bites and wounds. Overall yield averages will definitely fall short of what was previously expected, seven or less tons per hectare is expected. The lack of rainfall affected the sunflowers produced on 39,000 hectares less, but due to the early flowering and the heat, the size of the plate and the size of the seeds are also smaller than usual, in some drier, sandy areas the plant dries from the bottom. Despite this, the farmers are optimistic, the local specialists of NAK expect an average yield of 3 tons per hectare in the county. In Tolna, for the remainder of the harvest period, they hope for a yield of 58 tons per hectare from the sugar beet grown on 2,175 hectares, and 2.7 tons from soybeans grown on 3,200 hectares.
