The SZÉP Card sub-accounts have ceased to exist
As of January 1, 2023, the former accommodation, hospitality and leisure “pockets” were merged, thus the amounts charged in them will be added together. The amendment was created with the opinion of the Hungarian Tourism Agency and positively affects about 2.5 million card users and nearly 50,000 domestic tourism service providers.

SZÉP-cards have been with us for 11 years
The SZÉP Card has been the driving force of domestic tourism until now, however, as a result of the measure, its popularity is expected to increase further, as it provides relief and support in the sanctions crisis for both card holders, acceptance points and businesses.
“Interoperability” between sub-accounts has been made possible by the government since February 1, 2022; and the development of the proposal for their termination was prescribed in the framework of the package of measures to improve the economic situation of tourist enterprises announced on November 21, 2022. Thanks to the amendment reviewed by the Hungarian Tourism Agency, from the beginning of next year, cardholders can spend the amounts available on their cards even more easily and without restrictions. From now on, it can be an advantage for them that it is no longer necessary to continuously monitor the size of the amount available on each sub-account. This can significantly contribute to the improvement of the economic situation of tourism businesses particularly adversely affected by the sanctioned energy crisis.
