The recycling of a type of waste that has been buried so far is solved
Hamburger Recycling Hungary Kft. is putting a unique machine line into operation in Hungary. The technology opens up the possibility of recycling the industrial strapping tapes that are massively used in logistics, which was not possible in our country until now. The new managing director of the company, which is 30 years old this year, has set the goal of processing roughly 3,000 tons of this type of PET or PP-based waste in the first year after its launch.
Since China stopped importing waste in 2018, the industrial strapping tapes used for packaging and transport in Europe are mostly going to landfills and underground. At the initiative of Hamburger Recycling Hungary Kft., one of the Hungarian subsidiaries of the Austrian Prinzhorn Group, which handles a large part of residential selective waste in Budapest, this type of waste will soon be included in the circular economy, because the company has set up a necessary, modern machine line in Lőrinci.
“We have already gone through a lot of testing and fine-tuning, and according to the plans, we will start sorting, grinding and forwarding the strapping tapes to recyclers in a short time. Since the selective collection of this waste was not typical in the past, it is currently difficult to estimate what volumes we can achieve. Based on the information we have so far, I consider 3,000 tons to be a realistic goal for the first year after the start, which would immediately be a significant step in reducing the ecological footprint of the logistics sector.”
– said Mária Karczub, the managing director of Hamburger Recycling Hungary Kft. appointed from January.
