The Animal Welfare Regulation is now open for comment
The European Commission is continuing its review of animal welfare legislation. By reviewing the regulations, the EU aims to improve the welfare of farm animals and modernise regulations, including, among other things, extending animal welfare requirements to imports. The public can submit comments until 12 December 2025.

The central element of the multi-area review is the continuous phasing out of caged animals for laying hens, calves, pigs and rabbits. It also addresses animal welfare indicators and their digital tracking, and the extension of animal welfare requirements to imports. The survey also addresses the ethical issue of killing male day-old chicks. The consultation on the future proposal for a regulation on animal welfare requirements at the place of production is open to everyone. In the interest of transparency, NGOs and businesses participating in the public review are asked to register in the EU Transparency Register. To contribute, you need to register or log in with your existing social media account.
